A Ducati 1000ss running 6 hour endurance races in the ProSuperbike class? People think we're crazy. And maybe we are. The Supersport 1000 from Ducati is no longer included in their new model product range, but the dual spark air cooled engine lives on in the Hypermotard, Multistrada, Sport Classic and Monster range. Lightweight and tractable, the 1000DS engine provides useable power without being a 200bhp rocket ship. It's an engine that puts smiles on faces. The Kapital Moto Racing 1000ss has quite a few modifications under the fairings to increase power and torque, while also reducing weight as much as possible. The engine heads have been flowed, the crank balanced and slightly lightened, high compression pistons have been added and the standard flywheel machined down to a minimum. The ProSuperbike class in the UK's National Endurance series does not allow for big boring engines, therefore we have stuck with 1000cc, rather than increasing capacity, as is common, to 1100cc. This work has been managed and performed to the highest standards through our sponsor, Cornerspeed. The plan is also for an underseat custom 2-into-1 exhaust system, replacing the standard 2-into-2 dual muffler standard exhaust. We'll be running iconic Ducati Supersport full fairings to maximis streamlining, and sponsorship space! Our sponsor Solo Corse has provided ICR master cylinders, Wilburs shock springs, their own brand wave brake disks and many other parts required to complete a stunning race setup. The standard 5-spoke Brembo wheels have been replaced with Ducati 999R wheels, which are Marchesini Forged Alloy. Maybe next year the budget will stretch to BST Carbon wheels - the problem being the multiple number of sets required for Endurance racing. We're aiming for around 165kg in weight, 100bhp at the rear wheel and 70 ft/lb of torque. Whether we realise these figures will only become clear once the engine has been tuned and Dyno tested. |
