A New Direction for Kapital Moto Racing
Monday, 20 July 2009 18:22

After the team’s recent problems with their Ducati 1000SS race bike at Cadwell Park, coupled with a lack of power that means the team may struggle to remain competitive in the UK’s Hottrax National Endurance Championship ProSuperbike class, Kapital Moto Racing has decided to strike out in a new direction.

After much deliberation, and having considered a number of options, the team have decided to campaign a new bike for the remainder of the season. The team recently had the opportunity to purchase the 2008 Championship-winning Yamaha R1, but since racing Ducatis is the main reason the team is in existence, Kapital Moto Racing will be unveiling their Ducati 996ES at the next round of the Championship on 1st August 2009.

Kapital Moto Racing’s Cadwell Disappointment
Monday, 13 July 2009 06:11

Twickenham’s Kapital Moto Racing was unable to repeat their stellar performance at Anglesey when they visited Lincolnshire’s Cadwell Park for Round 4 of the Hottrax National Endurance Championship.

Post-Anglesey inspections revealed a small oil problem on the Q-Build-sponsored team’s Ducati 1000ss, when oil was found in the machine’s bellypan. The bike was checked over and a complete engine inspection was made to ensure there were no additional oil leaks. Ultimately, the oil leak was traced to excessive pressure from the engine’s crank, so the team found what they thought was a solution in time for the Cadwell Park round.

Unfortunately, Friday’s testing at Cadwell Park revealed all was not well. The team was black flagged twice due to a smoking bike throughout the day, and frantic work was undertaken to resolve the problem. The oil overflow was re-routed to another standalone catch bottle, but, it was then discovered that a small oil seal behind the main cambelt pulleys was also leaking oil. Neil Barrett from Ducati workshop Cornerspeed, travelled to the Cadwell Park circuit on Friday evening to replace this faulty seal.

Race day morning dawned bright and clear, with high hopes for a strong result in this shorter 3-hour event. All did not go to plan as the team’s qualifying was cut short with oil continuing to leak from the 1000ss, although the team did manage to qualify 25th on the 29-bike grid. With the race underway, and pitting after only 7 laps for safety checks on yet another solution to the oil leak, the KapitalMoto Racing machine appeared to be in good shape with the problems resolved.

With Luke Palmer on board, the team steadily climbed up the order to 19th position by the time Palmer pitted for fuel and a rider change around the 45-minute mark. Sadly, a quick check revealed the oil problems had returned, so the race had to be abandoned and the Cadwell Park round of the 2009 National Endurance Series was over for Kapital Moto Racing.

Bitterly disappointed to record a DNF at Cadwell, Kapital Moto Racing’s Jason Boswell commented “Mechanical issues are part and parcel of racing, but we are all nevertheless frustrated at not being able to complete the race, especially as the whole team had again made such a great effort to get the Ducati on the grid and support the riders. But we will be back and raring to go next month!”

Kapital Moto Racing would like to thank Q-Build, Digit, and TVT for their continued support, and will be contesting the next round of the Hottrax National Endurance Championship at Pembrey Circuit on 1st and 2nd August.

In Memory of Lucie Stone
Monday, 06 July 2009 05:04

Kapital Moto Racing would like to pass on their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Lucie Stone who died in a motorcycle accident on Sunday, July 5th. We are especially thinking of Lucie's life partner Tony Couch.

Kapital Moto Racing riders Phill Clarke and Jason Boswell both knew Lucie from the Ducati Desmodue paddock, where she raced in Class B on her florally decorated Ducati 583 machine. Phill in particular has fond memories of dicing with Lucie regularly throughout the latter half of the 2006 season.

The team saw Lucie, Tony and friends at the Cadwell Park round of the Hottrax Endurance series this past weekend, on Friday July 3rd and Saturday July 4th. Lucie and Tony were good enough to lend Phill a motorcycle jacket to enable him to collect the Kapital Moto Racing Chief Timekeeper, Agenese Kruzenberga, from Lincoln Station on Friday evening. It was the last favour we ever had the chance to ask her.

Words can never be enough to express the sadness of someone close passing away, but all our thoughts and sympathies are with those who were close to Lucie.

Kapital Moto Racing Conquer Anglesey
Monday, 25 May 2009 20:24
Kapital Moto Racing certainly proved their point at last weekend's Hottrax National Endurance round, held at the UK's Anglesey circuit. After barely completing the previous 6 hour event at Mallory Park because of reliability issues, the team's Ducati 1000ss bike took to the Welsh circuit for another 6 hour test. This time everything ran like clockwork, enabling Kapital Moto Racing to post the season's best result so far.

Post-Mallory diagnosis revealed a severely damaged alternator and flywheel which required a complete replacment prior to any further racing. The suspension on the Ducati 1000ss also received much needed attention, with new fork springs, a lighter spring, and customised ride-height adjuster added to the Ohlins rear shock. A complete geometry diagnosis meant the bike should have been in a near perfect starting configuration for Anglesey. Unfortunately, the only testing available was a rain-sodden affair on the Friday prior to race day. All three team riders were unhappy with the feel of the front end, and could only hope that with dry weather tyres, the situation would be different.

Kapital Moto Back in Action at Anglesey
Wednesday, 20 May 2009 19:04
Kapital Moto Racing Team will finally be back in action this coming weekend, racing at the Hottrax National Endurance series at Anglesey, in the ProSuperbike class.

Having missed Round 2 in April due to prior commitments, the team has had a longer than usual break between rounds. But that still hasn't stopped us leaving everything until the last minute, of course. The 1000SS is still in the workshop, but will be all the better for it, having had a complete overhaul of the front and rear suspension, and repairs to the charging system (running total loss for 6 hours is not to be recommended!!).

Kapital Moto Racing Finishes Mallory 6 Hour
Monday, 30 March 2009 13:16

On Sunday March 29th, Kapital Moto Racing successfully completed their first 6 hour endurance event at Mallory Park. The race wasn’t without drama and incident for the team, however they were ultimately successful in passing the chequered flag to record a result in the National ProSuperbike class.

Finishing the final touches to a newly built race bike on the Friday before race weekend was always going to mean everything was down to the wire. The bike was completed and arrived at Mallory Park early on Saturday morning, ready for a first shakedown the day before the first race.

Initially the suspension settings were found to be incompatible with producing fast laps, so Saturday was mostly dedicated to adjusting forks and rear shock to find an optimum setup. Team drills regarding re-fuelling and wheel changes were also practiced. The weather was not kind at Mallory Park on Saturday with heavy rain showers and hail disrupting proceedings.

Sunday morning dawned bright and clear, with high hopes of a strong race result. The Kapital Moto Racing Ducati Supersport 1000 qualified well down the field in 21st position, with suspension adjustments continuing until the very last minute. Some qualifying and practice time was lost as rider Jason Boswell suffered a small crash at the infamous Mallory hairpin, fortunately resulting in only minor damage the bike. Sadly, a fabulous paint scheme was no longer pristine.
